Biographical/Historical note

Birmingham science fiction fan and collector Al Andrews died on January 30, 1970, as the result of a fall, age 41. He was active in science fiction writing and fanzine collection and dissemination during the 1950s, both as an artist and a letter writer, and his interest and activities revived during the final year of his life. This collection of amateur fanzines and related publications was donated to the Hoole Special collections library in his memory.

A very large collection of individually-produced fan magazines (fanzines or ‘zines), circular letters, and related materials, principally of science fiction fantasy subjects, named in honor of Birmingham native and science fiction artist, Al Andrews. See the finding aid for a detailed inventory of the contents of the collection.
