This collections contains correspondence and special orders received by Henry L. Stone during his time in the Union army. Of note are materials concerning his appointment to the United States Colored Troops in 1865 and a letter of introduction to General Ambrose Burnside in 1863.

Biographical / Historical

Henry "Harry" L. Stone was a Union soldier during the Civil War. He was appointed to the United States Colored Troops and promoted to 2nd Lieutenant of the 40th Regiment in 1865. He was later promoted to the rank of Captain.
