James Franklin Holliman, oldest son of Uriah H. and Mary Lucas Holliman, was born on 28 January 1839, in Alabama. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Holliman was a First Lieutenant in Company "B" 58th Alabama Infantry Regiment. At the end of the war, he was released from prison on Johnson's Island, Ohio, and returned home.
On 2 July 1865, he married Rebecca Utley Stewart (1829-1893), daughter of John Stewart, in Fayette County, Alabama. After her death he married Bertha Lee Powell in 1896. He and Rebecca had four children (Virginia Ann, Holland Dean, James Isaiah, and William Bailey) and then had six more with Bertha (Daniel Franklin, Cleon Carlisle, Leon Olenthus, Janet Ellen, John Newton Hall, and Mary Elizabeth). Holliman died in Fayette County in 1911.
