Biographical / Historical
William Preston Copeland, son of Jonathan Nelson and Caroline Cannon Copeland, was born on 1 September 1845 in Eufaula, Alabama. He was a sergeant, Company C, University of Alabama Corps of Cadets during the Civil War. He met and married Mary Fontaine Flewellen. The couple had four daughters: Etta (1876- ); Henrietta Fontaine (1876-1956); Sarah Matilda (1884-1932); and Willie Preston (1886-1966). Copeland was a practicing physician in Eufaula for 61 years. He died on 17 February 1931.
