Scope and Contents
This collection contains materials from three generations of the Reade family. There is a scrapbook and daily planner from 1917 for Reverend Charles G. Reade. For Captain Lewis B. Read there is a collection of mostly work related letters from 1951 to 1974. For Cornelia Reade there is a collection of personal letters from 1973 to 1982 and a scrapbook containing clippings, pictures, and pamphlets relating to riverboats, especially the Delta Queen.

Biographical / Historical
Reverend Charles G. Reade was born in London, England on September 18, 1865. As a young man he immigrated to the United States and worked for newspapers for a number of years, at one time working as the editor of the Dayton Daily News. In 1905 Reade was ordained into the priesthood of the Episcopal Church. Reade served in the church in various positions until 1934 and died as a result of a heart problem in 1940.
Lewis B. Reade was born on January 25, 1902 and was the son of Reverend Reade. Lewis Reade was a worked for many years as a captain of a towboat for the American Barge Line Company. Lewis Reade died in 1970.
Cornelia Reade was the daughter of Lewis Reade. Cornelia was very interested in riverboats and was active in the Sons & Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen.
