General
Enclosed undated letter from Mrs. Frank C. Wilson, Jr., to Joyce Lamont (Curator at W.S. Hoole Special Collections):
"Enclosed are several checks which were handled by the probate judge of Talladega. George H. Stewart was the grandfather of Bob Stewart, a friend of mine. These letters were found in a trunk recently.
"I spoke with Bill Bonnard about them, and he said he knew this custom persisted, but there has been very little documentation. The checks were given by individuals to the judge for the support of illigitimate [sic] children.
"The hesitation in turning loose of these checks stemmed from the fact that there are some prominent Birmingham names involved. Perhaps there could be a time limit on these or something to protect the families which are still well-known. Anyway, Bill B. said it is important that they be placed somewhere for study. Do with them what you think best."
