Letters from Roy Swindell to his wife Sara Swindell and their family, who lived in Chattanooga and later Nashville, Tennessee. He wrote as he was traveling for the armed services and work. He wrote of his struggles to find permanent local employment, missing his wife and children, and planning visits home.
One V-mail letter is from Sara to their son Jimmy while he was a second lieutenant stationed in New York during World War II. She sent him a list of Bible verses because "President Roosevelt has asked that everybody read their Bibles." There is also one letter from Sara to her mother and several empty envelopes.

Biographical / Historical
Roy Gardner Swindell (1889-1939) served in France while in the U. S. Army. After his return he married Sara Martin Lauderdale and began work as a traveling salesman. They had three sons: James "Jimmy" W. (1923-1944), Roy Gardner, Jr. (1927-2008), and John L. (abt. 1929-). Jimmy Swindell was a second lieutenant in the armed services and was killed in action. The family lived in Tennessee.
