Biographical / Historical
Octavia Walton Le Vert, 1810-1877, was born in Georgia and as a child moved to Pensacola, Florida, and later to Mobile, Alabama. She married a physician, Henry Le Vert, in Mobile. Both before and after her marriage she travelled extensively in the U.S. and in Europe and was acquainted with with writers and political leaders, including Washington Irving, Edgar Allen Poe, and Queen Victoria. In 1857 she wrote Souvenirs of Travel, which described her trip to Europe.
