Biographical / Historical
Alfredo Barrera Vasquez, born on November 26, 1900, in Maxcanu, Mexico, was a Mexican anthropologist, linguist, academic, and Mayanist scholar. He is noted for both his research into the historical Mayan civilization of the Pre-Columbian era, his contributions promoting literacy in Mayan languages, and the culture of contemporary Mayan people. He died on December 28, 1980.
