Louisville Girls was originally located at First and Green (subsequently renamed Liberty) streets on property which was later the site of Ahrens High School. In the 1860's the school moved to property on First between Walnut and Chestnut. In its earliest days the school was referred to as Female and the names of Female and Girls were both used in the 1890's and early 1900's. The school was briefly called Central Girls High School to distinguish it from the short-lived Eastern and Western Girls Highs. The school was located at Fifth and Hill streets from 1899 to 1935. This building later became the city schools headquarters and was razed following the building's sale to Urban Renewal in 1971. The school relocated to Halleck Hall, a newly constructed building, in 1935 where it shared the premises with the Louisville Junior High School. Girls was consolidated with duPont Manual High in 1950 in the Halleck Hall building at Second and Lee streets.
