This collection consists of two letters from Archie to an unnamed brother and one letter from Archie to his sister, Sarah. The two letters to the brother discuss farming, the school where Archie taught, a food purchasing trip to Montgomery, and the situation with boarders at Archie's home. The third letter addresses Archie's sorrow regarding the division of the family farm due to inheritance. He also discusses his family life. The third letter contains additional writing over the front of the letter, perhaps as an addendum.

Biographical/Historical note
Archie was a resident of Lower Peach Tree, Alabama. He had a brother (unnamed) and two sisters, Sarah and Mary. Their parents died not long before February 1874. He may have had a wife, Kate, and two children, Katie and Annie.
