Scope and Contents
This collection consists of one letter dated December 20, 1849, written by William Wright to Vincent Gravett. In the letter he discusses legislative matters and describes the burning of the capitol building earlier in the month. Even though he says they were not able to get all of the books, papers, etc. out before the roof fell in, “All the important documents was saved. It has produced great confusion here.” He notes that there were some members who wanted to move the capital to Mobile while others wanted to go back to Tuscaloosa, “but when the vote was taken there was a large majority to remain here.”
