Scope and Contents
This collection consists of two letters written by Samuel Williams Inge, one to the editors of the Congressional Globe, dated May 6th, 1848, requesting a copy of the Globe be sent to a constituent in Green County, Alabama. The second letter requests copies of a speech.

Biographical / Historical
Samuel Williams Inge was born on February 22, 1817 in Warren County, North Carolina. He moved to Greene County, studied law; he was admitted to the bar and opened a practice in Livingston, Sumter County, Alabama. He served as a member to the Alabama State House of representatives from 1844 to 1845. He was then elected to the United States House of Representatives and served from 1847–1851. He was appointed by President Franklin Pierce to be a United States attorney for the northern district of California on April 1, 1853. He died on June 10, 1868 in San Francisco, California.
