Biographical / Historical

Frederick George Bromberg was born in New York City, New York on June 19, 1837. He moved with his parents to Mobile, Alabama in February 1838. After attending public schools in Alabama he graduated from Harvard University in 1858. After post-graduate studies in chemistry and tutoring mathematics at Harvard until 1865, he was back in Mobile by July of 1867 when he was appointed treasurer of the city. He served as a member of the Alabama State Senate from 1868-1872. He was elected as a Liberal Republican and Democratic Party fusion candidate to the United States Congress and served from 1873-1875. After leaving Congress, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1877 and practiced in Mobile, Alabama. He served as president of the State bar association in 1906. He died in Mobile, Alabama on September 4, 1930.
