Biographical / Historical

John Hollis Bankhead, Jr. was born in 1872 in Jasper, Walker County, Alabama, the third (first son) of five children to John Hollis Bankhead and Tullulah James Brockman. He was elected to the United States Senate in 1930, 1936 and 1942. He was also a trustee of the University of Alabama and was chairman of the Congressional Committee on Irrigation and Reclamation. He died while serving in office.
