Scope and Contents
This collection centers around the LGBT publication The Alabama Forum produced by editor-in-chief June Holloway. The collection also contains materials related to the LGBT community within and around Birmingham, Alabama. Materials include books, reports, letters, newspapers, magazines, rough drafts, and financial materials. These materials are divided up into four sections: administrative records, community involvement, newspaper production, and audio and visual materials. Administrative records pertain to financial and internal records, as well as letters to the editor. The community involvement records contain personal correspondence, political and community event information, as well as photographs. Newspaper production contains art and design elements as well as content and research files. Audio and visual materials contain floppy disks, film, and other visual materials.

Biographical / Historical
The Alabama Forum was a LGBT newspaper published in Birmingham, Alabama. It was first published in 1977 with the organization Lambda. It was a repository of local and national news related to contemporary LGBT issues and an important venue for publicizing events of interest to the community. The Alabama Forum published its last issue in 2002 when its long-time editor June Holloway became ill.

Abstract
This collection consists of records pertaining to the creation of this LGBT newsletter published in Birmingham, Alabama. The materials include administrative records, community involvement papers, audio and visual materials, and newspaper production files.
Arrangement
The archivists organized the collection into three series, which include administrative records, community involvement, and newspaper production. These series are further divided into sub-series. With the exception of the sub-series “research files,” the series are organized in chronological order with undated at the end. Research files are primarily in chronological order with newspapers being sorted in alphabetical order at the end. The series audio and visual records are largely unprocessed.
General
The use of the term “LGBT” in this collection, instead of the modern term “LGBTQIA+,” is not to be exclusionary but rather reflects the language the individuals in the collection used to describe themselves.
