Scope and Contents note

This collection consists of a single small notebook, into which Powers evidently copied some of his outgoing correspondence from March-October 1938. The latter concerns a proposed baseball game between the "ball team of Hurricane" and their opposite number in Woodville.

Biographical/Historical note

Gurley, Alabama businessman, 1938. There are two Gurleys in Alabama, one in Blount County, the other in Madison. Powers probably lived in the latter, as Woodville, referred to in one of the letters, is a few miles southeast of that Gurley.
