S. district attorney for northern Alabama (1907-1914), special assistant to the U.S. Attorney General (1914-1920), chairman of the Republican executive committee for the Seventh Congressional District (1904-1908), delegate to two Republican national conventions (1912 and 1916) and member of the Republican National Committee (1916-1920).
