A letter dated 12 July 1883, to his sister, Caroline Miller, about examinations of students at Tuscaloosa Female Academy, the examination of the senior class at the University of Alabama, and his recent activities in Tuscaloosa. The collection also contains photograph of Miller copied from the original at the University of Texas Institute of Texas Culture

Biographical / Historical

University of Alabama graduate (A.B., 1836; AM 1848) from Moulton, Lawrence, County, Alabama, the son of David Miller [q.v]. Miller subsequently moved to Texas and became a planter and lawyer. He served as a representative in the Texas Congress, 1840, as private secretary to Texas President Sam Houston, 1841-43, as Texas Secretary of State, 1849-50, and as Chief Clerk, Post Office Department, CSA.
