Scope and Contents note

E.N. McCall lived most of his life just south of Brewton, Escambia County, Alabama, near the Florida-Alabama state line. He operated a country store there, the Dixonville Racket Company. A major part of this collection is made up of the transaction records for this business, including bills and receipts, freight and shipping bills, tax forms and miscellaneous papers and tax receipts.

Among the correspondence are papers relating to E.N. McCall's role as a priest in the Re-Organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. These cover such church-related matters as business meetings, tithes, ministerial duties, fundraising, etc. There is also some correspondence dealing with family and personal matters (e.g., getting the children into schools, etc.).

The collection also contains material dealing specifically with McCall's agricultural interests, the bulk of which concerns the acreage allotments for cotton during the New Deal period, inlcuding government forms, applications, class and weight bale inventories, option contracts, etc.

The collection also has numerous mortgage deeds (also called chattel mortgages) and warranty deeds of business enterprises of E.N. McCall and others. These comprise legal forms from Escambia County, Alabama, and Santa Rosa County, Florida. (The two sons of E.N. McCall became residents of Florida: Mahlon being county judge of Santa Rosa County, and Dehryl a county extension agent in Green Cove Springs.)

A few miscellaneous pamphlets and a collection of receipt books (mostly of monies received by the church) finish off the McCall collection.
