Scope and Contents
Contains a photocopy of a typescript of the diary Kenyon kept from early 1862, before he was taken prisoner, through 1864. The work also contains a bri copies of his Army orders and promotions through 1865. He provides fairly detailed descriptions of life as a prisoner of war in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and other southern cities.

Biographical / Historical
Union officer from Iowa serving as a Lt. Colonel with the 11th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. Kenyon was captured on February 15, 1862, during the Battle of Ft. Donelson in Tennessee. He was held prisoner in Tennessee; Tusaloosa, Alabama; Mobile, Alabama; and Macon, Georgia. He mustered out of the U.S. Army on December 4, 1864.
