Biographical / Historical
Pierre Hurtel fled with his family from France to the United States after the fall of Napoleon and settled in Mobile, Alabama. His son, John Hurtel, active in Mobile business and social life, was a charter member of the Cowbellion de Rakin Society, the first mystic society of Mobile. John's son, Alfonse Hurtel, served as Mobile's mayor from 1874 to 1877.
