Biographical / Historical

Born February 2, 1834 in Greene County, Alabama. Attended the University of Georgia and the University of Virginia. A planter, he was elected to the constitutional convention of 1867, the state senate in 1868, and the U.S. House of Representatives, Forty-first Congress and to three succeeding Congresses, representing the Fourth district (from March 4, 1869 to March 3, 1877). Died June 24, 1879.
