A scrapbook and accompanying materials relating to the book “With C.H. Ellis Through Central America and Panama: Quarantine Tour of Central America and Panama by Health Authorities as Guests of the United Fruit Company,” compiled and distributed by that firm. It documents a trip by public health officials from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, in which Mobile journalist Eyre Damer participated, following the American yellow fever epidemic of 1905 which was blamed on fruit companies operating between Central America and various Southern ports. Damer's scrapbook includes unpublished photographs of participants as well as the printed text and photographs, plus materials by Damer including his accounts of the voyage which appeared in the Mobile Register, a subsequent speech about the trip to the Mobile Commercial Club, correspondence about the trip, souvenirs, business cards collected during the trip and at a reunion of the participants, and a biographical sketch of Damer from the Register.
