Incoming correspondence consists of business correspondence and letters from his children and extended family, including John Hartwell Cocke of Bremo, Virginia. Correspondence to John Cocke regarding his brother Thomas Cocke is in the second series under the subseries Fiduciary Relationships with Siblings. The few pieces of outgoing correspondence are arranged chronologically. The incoming correspondence is arranged alphabetically.
