Contains incoming and outgoing correspondence, muster rolls, financial data, diaries, news clippings, official orders, miscellaneous documents, and reports of battles and operations from his time spent as a general in the Confederate Army.
Correspondence ranges primarily from 1861 to 1877, though letters about General Clayton continue into 1947. Included within the series is a copy of "History of the First Regiment, Alabama Volunteer Infantry C.S.A" by Edward Young McMorries, Ph. D.
