From the Collection: This photograph of the Pettigrew family, with an African American woman and a young boy, was taken by a photographer in Mobile, Alabama. Pettigrew family members are identified on the back of the photograph. The African American woman and a young boy are not identified.

We gave the photo an approximate date of "circa 1866" because our source identifies the photography studio's establishment as "about 1866."
