This Civil War diary, kept by Private Charles H. Howe, is written on the verso and margins of a printed Civil War-era map on which Howe outlined the route he traveled. Private Howe was part of Company G of the Thirty-sixth Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, First Brigade, First Division, Ninth Army Corps. The diary entries discuss Private Howe's travels, adventures, and hardships over the course of a year. The entries about the Vicksburg campaign are particularly detailed.
