Letter fragment from Melinda to her sister discussing the 1857 economic depression caused by the failure of the Ohio Life Insurance and Trust Company. The fragment begins with the description of how "he" (a friend or family member) lost $5,000 when Ohio Life collapsed. Melinda goes on to name several friends who had recently married, including one who married a man who was "in pursuit of a wife."
