Letters of condolence from United States Senator for Alabama, John Hollis Bankhead (1872-1946) and United States Speaker of the House of Representatives for Alabama, William B. Bankhead, on the death of their niece Louise Holloway on December 27, 1938. John's letter is addressed to Dave, Louise's husband and is written on the stationery of the US Senate Committee on Irrigation and Reclamation, of which Bankhead was chairman. He reminisces about Louise always remembering to send him candy for Christmas. William's letter is written to his sister and Louise's aunt, Marie Bankhead Owens of Montgomery, Alabama, written on stationery bearing the letterhead of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, also offering his condolences on Louise's death and apologizing for being so late in sending them.
