Scope and Contents

Typewritten letter from Charles Ashton, of Guthrie Center, Iowa, editor of the Guthrian and member of the Iowa Columbian Commission, to his grandson Ned Ashton of Knoxville, Iowa, talking about the hens that Ned's father Henry had recently bought, as well as Ned's recent illness, ending with an admonishment for the young boy to listen to his parents. There is a handwritten postscript admonishing "Master Ned" to keep this letter in the envelope until he gets "to be a man."
