Letter to Lizzie, 1875-11-21
Scope and Contents
Letter written to Lizzie from her cousin in Cheltenham, Missouri, with news about about the family and the Whiskey Ring trial which had begun. The letter says that and many wealthy and affluent members of the community had been implicated. (The Whiskey Ring Scandal trials began in Jefferson City, Missouri in October 1875.) Her cousin also told her about a feud between Catholic and Protestant priests over the control of the public school system in St. Louis.
