Scope and Contents
This collection consists of photocopies of Edward R. Moore's commission as 1st Lieutenant, 2nd Infantry Regt., U.S. Colored Troops, August 26, 1863; a letter introducing Moore to Major Williams of the War Department, written by N. F. Downs, Chief Clerk in the Treasury Department's Office of Internal Revenue, November 28, 1863; Moore's appointment as Captain, September 13, 1864; Army General Orders No. 14 and cover, announcing the protocol for observing the death of President Lincoln, April 26, 1865; and Moore's discharge from the Army, January 5, 1866.
