Squire Helm Bush Papers, 1862 - 1925

 Item — Box: 4273.002, Folder: 005

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of photocopies of a typescript of Bush's Civil War diary, covering events from October 1, 1862 to December 1, 1863, and annotated at a later date; the Roll of Company B, 6th Kentucky Regiment, C.SA, according to Bush's account; Bush's obituary; and biographical data on Bush compiled by his grandson, W. C. Bush. Bush was present at the Battles of Shiloh, Baton Rouge, Murphreesboro, Chickamauga, and Atlanta, although his diary does not begin until after the first two occurred and does not extend to the last. The diary is especially vivid in depicting the circumstances of army life off the battlefield.
