Scope and Contents

This collection consists of a handwritten memoir of Civil War service by Lou Moore, which was read to the George W. Lennard Post of the Grand Army of the Republic at New Castle, Indiana, on April 13, 1895. It describes Moore's service in the 16th Indiana Infantry Regiment, which was mustered into United States service on August 12, 1862. The regiment saw service in the Western theater, including the Battle of Richmond (August 29-30, 1862), the Vicksburg campaign, the Battle of Arkansas Post (January 11, 1863), and the Red River Campaign.
