Lucy Green Scrapbook and Photographs, 1924 - 1988
Scope and Contents
One scrapbook containing jottings, photographs, and other memorabilia from Lucy Green's school days at Pike County, Alabama, High School, from whence she graduated in May 1925. At some point, however, most of the photographs were removed from the book and are now loose. There are approximately sixty-four photographs and negatives that appear to date from the era in which Green attended high school, five loose presentation cards (the scrapbook contains several others), and a miscellany of other items from the 1920s, including an admission ticket to a college women’s basketball game (1926) and Green’s 1926 “class card” from Alabama College. The collection also contains twenty-seven photographs taken at later dates. From appearance and processing dates they seem to date from the 1940s to the 1980s. A few have brief notations on the back. Finally, there are a few newspaper clippings and other items.

Biographical / Historical
Lucy Green was daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henry Green Sr., of Banks, Pike County, Alabama. She graduated from Pike County High School, in nearby Brundidge, on 26 May 1925, following which she attended Alabama College, in Montevallo, Alabama. From a newspaper clipping in this collection it appears that Green was a school teacher. Other clippings suggest that she may have been married to a Julian M. High, that the couple lived in Perote, Bullock County, Alabama, and that they had a daughter, Molly Green High, who died aged fourteen months. Another article, this a 1954 piece reporting on the 56th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henry Green, Sr., states that they were attended by all of their surviving children (one son died in 1949). The two daughters are stated to be Mrs. Gussie Green and Mrs. Ralph Hixon. The collection also contains an empty envelope inscribed "Mrs. Hixon," suggesting that she and Lucy Green may have been one in the same. If the foregoing speculation is correct, then Green was married at least twice.
