Zane Zieman Letters, 1945
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of three letters written by Corporal Zane Zieman of the 89th Field Artillery Battalion in the Philippine Islands during World War II, to his sister, Enid, and mother, Mrs. W. A. (Winnifred A.) Zieman of Midland, Haakon County, South Dakota. In the letters to his mother he tells her about having to wait to leave for Japan. He explains that the L. S. T. he is aboard was scheduled to “leave Japan for the states Nov. 5 and here it still sits with us aboard.” He also tells her send Christmas packages and asks for white t-shirts. His letter to Enid is playful and teasing. He also enclosed two blank Japanese postcards for her.

Biographical / Historical
Corporal Zane Zieman was born in approximately 1924, the oldest son of Charles F. and Winnifred A. Zieman of Stanley County, South Dakota. He served in the 89th field Artillery Battalion in the Philippine Islands in October 1945 during World War II.
