Biographical / Historical
The novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, by American abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe, was originally published in 1852, and quickly became popular worldwide. According to Grace Edith MacLean in "Uncle Tom's Cabin" in Germany (1910), by 1910 there were seventy-five distinct editions of the novel in German, including eleven abridgements for children.
