Scope and Contents
The Writings Series contains articles, short stories, poetry, book reviews, and other materials written by Hudson Strode, as well as research materials, promotional blurbs, dust jackets, manuscripts, proofs, clippings, and reviews of his books. Strode wrote and edited sixteen books between 1932-1975: The Story of Bermuda (1932), The Pageant of Cuba (1934), South by Thunderbird (1937), Immortal Lyrics (1939), Finland Forever (1941), Spring Harvest: A Collection of Stories from Alabama (1944), Timeless Mexico (1944), Now in Mexico (1947), Sweden: Model for a World (1949), Denmark Is a Lovely Land (1951), Jefferson Davis: American Patriot (1955), Jefferson Davis: Confederate President (1959), Jefferson Davis: Tragic Hero (1964), Jefferson Davis: Private Letters, 1823-1889 (1966), Ultimates in the Far East: Travels in the Orient and India (1973), and The Eleventh House (1975). Strode’s research materials about Jefferson Davis are included in this series, as well as a large amount of correspondence, primarily concerning an attempt among Strode and others to have Jefferson Davis inducted into the Civil War Hall of Fame at New York University.
