Photo Album: Sweden, circa 1939
Scope and Contents
The Photographs Series contains loose photographs, portraits, photo albums, slides, and negatives. Photographs depict Strode's family, travels, and home. Of special interest is a photograph of Amelia Earhart taken in Strode's living room in 1934, as well as photos of Aldous Huxley, Norwegian Nobel Laureate Sigrid Undset, and Swedish writer Selma Lagerlöf, the first woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1909. The photographs document Strode's travels to Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Mexico, and Bermuda. Among the items here is a signed photograph from Mexican President Lázaro Cárdenas, and holiday greeting cards, with photographs of the Thai royal family, signed by King Bhumibol and his wife Queen Sirikit. The series also contains eight signed black-and-white photographs of Mexico taken by German-Mexican photographer Hugo Brehme.
