This series was arranged to partly reflect Dr. Emerson's original order, which assigned one file folder for each correspondent. When there was a significant amount of correspondence between Dr. Emerson and one person, we placed that in one folder; , otherwise correspondence with multiple people is in one folder, organized alphabetically by last name.
