Birmingham School District 139 Minutes, 1904-1905
Scope and Contents
This collection contains ledgers, correspondence, and manuscripts written by members of the McAdory and Huey families of Bessemer, Marion, and Talladega, Alabama. Notable items include an 1896 Memorial Day speech written by Mortimer Jordan McAdory; meeting minutes and correspondence from Birmingham School District 139 compiled by Isaac Wellington McAdory and Chambers McAdory and dated from 1904 to 1906; an 1863 letter written by B. M. Huey; a 1929 literature paper written by Sarah King Huey; and a handwritten copy of Daniel Webster's March 7, 1850, speech denouncing secession. The collection also contains three photographs of unidentified individuals; two ledgers with handwritten entries and newspaper clippings dated from 1869 to 1905; and two smaller weather diaries with entries dated from 1887 to 1890.
