Scope and Contents

Commencement program of Omer Carmichael, a 1914 graduate of the University, the cousin of Dr. Oliver Carmichael, president of The University of Alabama. He was a school teacher who later became school superintendent in Selma, Alabama; Tampa, Florida; Lynchburg,Virginia; and Louisville, Kentucky, where his successful integration of the school in 1956 earned him national attention and honorary degrees from Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth in 1957.
