The collection contains newspaper clippings, correspondence, transcripts of interviews, press releases and presidential convention media packets, covering people and events, and their influence on Alabama. As stated in an advertisement for the Mignon Smith Alabama Radio Report from Washington, "Not only do Washington politics affect Alabama, and Alabamians affect Washington politics, but there is the same interplay in other areas such as civic organizations, trade associations, agriculture, the arts, etc. Alabama radio listeners should be kept abreast of this Washington news and how it affects them."

The collection is arranged in three primary series: Subjects, Presidential Conventions, and Alabama People. Another smaller group of materials includes some information about Mignon Smith, the Alabama Radio Network, and the Washington/Alabama News Report.

The collection also included several video tapes (Beta and VHS), books, and periodicals listed below. The books and periodicals have been added to Hoole's Alabama Collection, and the audio video materials have been added to the Manuscript's photographic unit.
