Political Appointments

 File — Box: SC1850-1899.002, Folder: 3060.4

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Letters written to Scott are primarily concerned with Alabama politics. These matters include Scott's position as delegate to the Republican National Committee, requests for appointments to federal positions, and comments on political wranglings within the state Republican party. The "third party" correspondence includes letters about the appointment of Thomas J. Scott (Charles' father) to the office of Register of the U.S. Land Office located in Montgomery, letters to Joseph O. Thomas, and other correspondence mentioning Charles H. Scott.

Manuscripts regarding political appointments concern political turmoil about Warren S. Reese and L.J. Bryan, two judicial appointments in Alabama. Republican party documents include a "plan of political proceedure [sic]," minutes from the executive committee of the Republican party in Wetumpka, and an electoral ballot from the 1936 Alabama state election.
