Scope and Contents
This collection contains biographies of thirty-nine prominent Civil War-era figures from Alabama, as well as biographies of the War Governors, A.B. Moore and Thomas Hill Watts, Generals John B. Gordon and George Harrison, Admiral Raphael Semmes, and Major John Pelham. The information contained in the biographies is not always factual or verified.
The collection also contains correspondence to and from Mrs. Annie Rowan Forney Daugette, chairman of the committee who assembled the collection, concerning the project, correspondence from family members during the prescribed period, biographical information on the men in question, copies of obituaries, eulogies, final tributes and pictures (some with negatives) of the gentlemen, their families, final resting places and monuments. Not all of the folders contain all of the above mentioned material.
