From the Series: Born and raised in Indiana, M.L.L. attended school in New Orleans (Madame Desrayoux's) and in Eutaw, Alabama (Mesopotamia Female Academy) where she lived with her aunt and uncle, Eliza Ashby Todd Taylor and Dr. Thompson W. Taylor. She was married in 1860 to Foster Mark Kirksey. Born Margaretta Thomas Liston, upon her mothers death she changed it to Margaretta Lucretia Liston. Contains outgoing and incoming personal correspondence, business papers and correspondence, and miscellaneous papers.

Outgoing Correspondence: To her husband, Foster Mark Kirksey as well as her father, grandmother, and friends. Includes two letters written on her honeymoon. Contents of a personal nature.

Incoming Correspondence: Originates from "Brom", an unidentified male correspondent, Robert Todd Liston, her brother, and miscellaneous family and friends. Includes information pertaining to social life of Greene County, Alabama.

Bills And Legal Correspondence: Includes correspondence, bills, receipts, her estate, and letters of sympathy to her son, Robert E. Kirksey, upon her death.

Misc. Papers: Social invitations, calling cards, school compositions, school and miscellaneous memorabilia of M.L.K., her sister Mary Todd Liston, and her children Foster Mark Kirksey, Jr. and Margaretta E. Kirksey.
