This collection contains two documents housed in a Mylar sleeve, both signed by African American sea captain Joseph Panter, Jr. The first document, dated April 24, 1806, records a sale to David Chadwick and Thomas Townsend and bears Panter’s signature. The second document, dated July 17, 1806, is an official record appointing Josiah Hussey of Nantucket as Panter’s financial attorney.
