Biographical / Historical

Zonta International is a global organization dedicated to advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls. With a mission to end violence against women and promote women's rights as human rights, Zonta works through advocacy, education, and service projects. The name "Zonta" is derived from the Lakhota language, meaning "honest and trustworthy." The Zonta Club of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is a local chapter supporting these efforts at both community and national levels. Zonta operates through in-person and electronic meetings, advocating for policy changes and initiatives that enhance women's representation in decision-making roles. The organization also invests in youth leadership through Z and Golden Z Clubs, which provide students with mentorship, leadership opportunities, and international service experiences to foster the next generation of gender equality advocates. Men are encouraged to join Zonta, reinforcing the belief that gender equality is a universal human rights issue.
