Scope and Contents

The collection consists of handwritten and printed musical compositions by Paul Hedwall, featuring works for a variety of instruments, including piano, strings, percussion, wind, vocal, and mixed ensembles. The materials are housed in four document boxes containing smaller scores and two oversized flat boxes with larger scores intended for conductor podiums. These larger scores are on sheets designed for performance and rehearsal.

Biographical/Historical note

Paul Hedwall was a composer and educator affiliated with The University of Alabama. In 1970, he was featured in the university's Composer's Forum program. Additionally, his composition was performed by the Prentice Concert Chorale, a multi-racial chorus dedicated to major choral works, at Brewer State Community College. He served as adjunct faculty at The University of Alabama, where he taught composition alongside K. Lee Scott and Gail Kubik. His son, David Hedwall, is a nationally known composer and former University of Alabama faculty member.
